Origine de l'Adhan

Le compagnon Abdullah ibn Zayd vit en rêve un homme lui enseignant ces paroles. Le Prophète ﷺ confirma la vision et désigna Bilal ibn Rabah, à la voix superbe, comme premier muezzin (Ibn Majah 706).

Répondre à l'Adhan

  1. Répéter après le muezzin (Boukhari 611).
  2. Pour Hayya ʿalā : dire « Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh » (Muslim 385).
  3. Salawat sur le Prophète ﷺ.
  4. Réciter la dua après l'Adhan (Boukhari 614).
  5. Faire dua personnelle — celle entre adhan et iqamah n'est pas rejetée.

Différences sunnite / chiite

La tradition duodécimaine chiite ajoute deux phrases : « Ashhadu anna ʿAliyyan waliyyu-llāh » après la deuxième shahada, et « Ḥayya ʿalā khayri'l-ʿamal » après Ḥayya ʿalā'l-falāḥ. Les écoles sunnites n'incluent ni l'une ni l'autre.

Questions fréquentes

L'Adhan enregistré est-il valable ?

Il peut notifier mais ne remplit pas l'obligation collective. L'Adhan vivant par un muezzin humain reste la Sunna.

Quelle différence entre Adhan et Iqamah ?

L'Adhan appelle à venir ; l'Iqamah, plus court, annonce que la prière commence immédiatement.

Étymologie et origine

De la racine arabe '-dh-n (informer, annoncer). « Adhan » signifie « annonce » — l'appel public à la prière. Le muezzin est « celui qui annonce ». Translittéré Azan (Asie du Sud), Azaan, Athan ou Ajan selon la région.
